Dahesh Museum
The Dahesh Museum is the only museum in the United States devoted to the collection and exhibition of European academic art. The collection originated with Lebanese writer and philosopher Saleem Moosa El-Ashi, pen name Dr. Dahesh.
The museum opened to the public in 1995 at an 1,800 square foot gallery on Fifth Avenue in New York City. In 2002, it moved to a new 30,000 square foot space at 580 Madison Avenue.

GOING EAST: Napoleon at the Dahesh Peter Schjeldahl reviews for the New Yorker the Dahesh Museum's current exhibit, "Napoleon on the Nile: Soldiers, Artists and the Rediscovery of Egypt." Curated by Lisa Small, the collection focuses on the French military occupation of Egypt from 1798-1801.
