American Folk Art Museum

The American Folk Art Museum maintains a collection that balances early American folk art and contemporary self-taught art. The museum opened in its permanent location on West 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan (New York City, USA) on December 11, 2001.

The Museum's trustees initially favored "real folk art" that held true historical significance, but in recent years this stance had softened, allowing more recent works to be dispayed in a new space called the Contenporary Center. Upon the Center's opening, the entire museum was rebranded from the "Museum of American Folk Art" to the "American Folk Art Museum", giving it a more-inclusive image that more welcoming to international artists.
